Sigma Alpha Epsilon reached a historic milestone on March 9, 2014, with the elimination of pledging and the membership classification of pledges. Instead, we have implemented a holistic education known as the True Gentleman Experience. It provides education throughout a member's collegiate tenure and fosters both personal and professional development. We are the first large national fraternity to eliminate pledging for all of our chapters.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon is the first North-American Interfraternity Conference fraternity to hire a Director of Diversity & Inclusion, who is responsible for overseeing the development, promotion and implementation of strategies that lead to enhanced diversity within our organization.

The 2015-2016 John O. Moseley Zeal Award winners were Ohio Epsilon at the University of Cincinnati and Pennsylvania Phi at Carnegie Melon University.

The 2016 True Gentleman of the Year was Eric McDaniel from North Dakota Beta.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon maintains a zero-tolerance policy for hazing and health-and-safety violations. The educational program We Stand Together was introduced in 2009 to reaffirm our anti-hazing stance. Our website thetgi.sae.net contains an area dedicated exclusively to We Stand Together, which includes many resources. In addition, Sigma Alpha Epsilon is one of the sponsors of the national, anonymous anti-hazing hotline at 1-888-NOT-HAZE and an anonymous hotline to report any inappropriate or illegal activity at 1-844-ALRT-SAE.

Our groups are autonomous in their recruitment of new members, but the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity maintains a non-discrimination policy regarding membership in our organization. In addition, our Fraternity Laws detail the qualification of membership in the Fraternity.

We maintain several position statements as part of our operations and beliefs. You can read our Position Statement on Sexual Misconduct & Assault and our Position Statement on Diversity & Inclusion.

The Fraternity maintains its web presence at www.sae.net, which includes a members-only section where members can search for other members, manage chapter bookkeeping and membership data and access operations documents.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon utilizes several online certification programs to assist our members and volunteer leaders with training and educational programming. The online tools provide overviews of the organization as well as information tailored specifically to certain positions or offices.

We have a special section on our website for parents and families. Here, they can find information about Sigma Alpha Epsilon and our history as well as details about specific chapters, Q&As and ways to get involved in the organization.

The Regional Director program serves our nearly 240 groups, 15,000 collegiate members and 200,000 living alumni as well as university administrators and campus-based professionals. Once known as field consultants and Education & Leadership Consultants, the current structure is much more robust. The program has evolved to meet the ever-changing needs and demands of our groups while maintaining the mission of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Over the course of a week, a Regional Director can serve hundreds of constituents in the field face to face, over the phone or via e-mail. They often serve as a first-line responder for our members. The field staff carries the responsibility of being the brand reps of the Fraternity Service Center, and we strive for that interaction to be a positive and beneficial one. The Fraternity utilizes eight Regional Directors, each living and working in one of the eight regions of the Realm. In addition, the field-staff team includes two extension coordinators, who work solely on expanding Sigma Alpha Epsilon through new colonies. The Associate Executive Director of Chapter and Alumni Services oversees the program and its staff.

The website designed exclusively for undergraduate and volunteer resources is called The TGI, which is located at thetgi.sae.net. In 2008, it was completely redesigned. It houses vital resources and documents, which have been downloaded more than one million times since the site first launched.

To assist our collegiate members in their academic pursuits, the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation awarded more than $300,000 through its National and Chapter Education Fund academic and Leadership School scholarship programs. National scholarships may be awarded to any qualified brother from any chapter who applies for one of the more than 40 named scholarships. Chapter Education Fund scholarships, on the other hand, may only be awarded to qualified brothers from the fund’s designated chapter(s). For example, of the more than 725 undergraduate brothers who attended the 77th John O. Moseley Leadership School, 265, or 36.5 percent, received a Leadership School Tuition Scholarship from the Foundation. Without those funds, the delegates could not have attended. The Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation thanks the brothers and friends who make our scholarship program, perhaps one of the greatest Foundation programs, possible.

The organization’s magazine, The Record, was voted Greek Magazine of the Year in 2011 and has earned more than 80 awards for excellence in the past ten years.

Recognition of achievement and dedication to the Fraternity is important. Members who have distinguished themselves on various levels of the Fraternity or within their professions bring honor not only to themselves but also to Sigma Alpha Epsilon. The Fraternity realizes the value in acknowledging exceptional service and that the presentation of an award of recognition is also a primary way to show its appreciation. The Fraternity Service Center offers a number of awards that individuals, chapters, alumni, provinces and others can request. Examples include the Order of the Lion, Minerva, Phoenix and Violet; 25-, 50- and 75-year membership certificates; and Certificates of Appreciation among many others. All awards are processed by the Fraternity Service Center through the Manager of Alumni Services and Special Projects. A comprehensive list of the awards can be found online at www.sae.net under the members-only area or at thetgi.sae.net under the “Alumni Relations” area.
